Highlights to Watch Out For at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2019

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon is finally here! Four whole days of talks, panels and sessions on everything associated with all things Kubernetes. At Opsani, we are looking forward to one of the biggest enterprise tech conferences. There should be plenty of opportunity to get our teeth into the topic of deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.

Here are 4 sessions we think you’d be interested in:

Building Reusable DevSecOps Pipelines on a Secure Kubernetes Platform

This session will be led by Steven Terrana, Lead Technologist from Booz Allen Hamilton, and Michael Ducy, Director of Open Source from Sysdig. When it comes to determining if a team will adopt modern Cloud Native and DevSecOps practices, it’s the onboarding development teams that are often the critical point. Sometimes, best practices are pushed aside whenever there is too much trouble for developers to build, scan, and test applications. Even securing application environments could cause friction. In this talk, these two experts will cover how the creation of a trusted software supply chain is automated with a live demonstration. Using this approach accelerates adoption by allowing developers to inherit a preconfigured pipeline performing various security tests (and underlying tooling). This also includes safeguards (via the CNCF Sandbox project Falco) put in place to monitor production workloads for security problems.

A Series of Fortunate CloudEvents

Ian Coffey from Salesforce will lead this session. He will cover topics such as Serverless and Eventing, two ultra-popular areas of tech right now, and will describe a broad set of ideas and capabilities that can service a range of possible systems. These concepts will surely expand, and help define the next generation of web services. Ian will focus on what goes on inside these systems, what technology these popular terms rely on, and what an Eventing workflow look like under the hood. In this hands on session, you will get to discuss, operate, and modify a running distributed system built with CloudEvents and Knative Eventing, with a system based around the concept of an automated conversation between kubernetes services.

Networking Optimizations for Multi-Node Deep Learning on Kubernetes

This session will be led by Rajat Chopra, Principal Software Engineer at NVIDIA, and Erez Cohen, Vice President for CloudX & AI Program at Mellanox. The speakers have configured Kubernetes and multi-node infrastructure to deliver performance that scales as we add more GPUs and nodes, in collaboration with NVIDIA and the community. This talk will present the problems as well as solutions related to networking discovered during this Kubernetes journey. The inexhaustive list includes solutions like using Source-Based routing within pods for L3 networks, CNI for multiple networks using SRIOV, high throughput and direct GPU to NIC connectivity (GPUDirect), enforcing PCI affinity of GPUs with respect to Network Interfaces, enabling RDMA over IB and Ethernet (RoCE) to provide low latency, and much more.

BONUS: New Releases, Community Members, and Storage Updates!

Big IT Vendors such as VMware, Microsoft, Oracle, NetApp have all released products to help their customers embrace K8s or Kubernetes. They all want to help their customers embrace it. While these products may still be fresh (K8s has only been around for 5 years), these big IT vendors sense that K8s is the hot new technology in town! Expect these innovators to be demonstrating and explaining their K8s related products at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon.

Don’t forget to drop by booth SE24. In the meantime, feel free to check out this video of Opsani CEO Ross Schibler talk about how Opsani is changing the way people deploy applications in the cloud. You can also book a time to meet with us to learn more.
